October 17th 2022: In a last minute announcement the strike which would have brought OC Bus to a standstill has been suspended at the last moment after California Governor Gavin Newsom’s office asked both sides to return to the contract discussions.
Talks will continue between the union representing the OC Bus mechanics and maintenance workers so for the moment all OC Bus services will keep running as both sides talk. A strike would have been horrible for most of the 100,00 daily bus riders in Orange County, most who don’t have another form of transportation.
Hopefully a deal can be worked out and this isn’t pushing a strike back for only a while. OC Bus has recently been able to build ridership back up to pre pandemic levels a shutdown wouldn’t have been good for anyone.
