Costa Mesa is one of the cities considering breaking away from buying their electricity from Southern California Edison and, starting their own power company.

The Orange County cities involved include apart from Costa Mesa the cities of Irvine, Fullerton, Stanton and, maybe Huntington Beach. Under deregulation more cities are considering buying electricity straight from the grid and, cutting out Southern California Edison.

Potentially by buying the electricity without Edison they could save money but it could also come with some risks if there is a spike in the wholesale price.

This wouldn’t effect consumers most likely as the cities are looking to save on the large amounts of electricity the cities use themselves on public buildings as well as things like street lights and signals.
