April 1st 2022: A new Target smaller format store has opened in Costa Mesa on 17th Street. The new store is now open for a soft opening with an official grand opening most likely later this month or in May. The new location is a smaller version of a regular Target store and carries groceries, décor, health and beauty items as well as some men’s and women’s clothing.

The actual location of the store is at 289 E 17th Street in a space that previously was a Ross Dress For Less store. The smaller store concept by Target started out in dense downtown areas as well as around colleges but is becoming more common in suburban locations.

Where I grew up in England all the big supermarket chains have big traditional grocery stores as well as smaller format local stores which mainly serve groceries. I can see this type of store becoming more common as it’s a way to put smaller stores in places where there isn’t room or is cost efficient to put larger stores.

If you are looking for a job the new store is hiring for all positions starting at $15 per hour if you are interested visit their website at jobs.target.com/costa-mesa. At the same time as the Costa Mesa store opening another small format Target is opening in Huntington Beach at a former Stein Mart location on Beach Blvd.

Hours:

At present the store is open from 8 am to 10 pm 7 days a week
