October 3rd 2022: Train service for Amtrak and Metrolink on the nations second busiest route between Los Angeles and San Diego because of destabilized cliffs. The issue was caused by heavy rains from the recent Tropical Storm Kay on the cliffs in San Clemente.

This isn’t the first time this has happened, the part of the route between South Orange County and North San Diego County is popular as the trains run right next to the beach giving amazing views; Major drawbacks with having train rails along the beach is protecting the train tracks from the ocean or the bluffs above from collapsing on them.

Amtrak:

Amtrak has announced that its Pacific Surfliner service between Irvine and San Diego is not running. Amtrak has said its trying to set up a train service between Oceanside and San Diego as well as possible bus service between Irvine and Oceanside.
