October 23rd 2022: I had for a while wanted to check out the Packing District in Anaheim but something always seemed to come up. The Packing District is the former Sunkist Factory in the city of Anaheim that was converted in to a huge food hall with over 30 artisans. The huge building is filled with mainly restaurants and drink vendors but there is also some selling craft items.
I grew up in England and moved to the United States when i was 16 and one thing i do miss is good fish and chips. Often i find fish where the quality of fish isn’t good or is over battered so i was looking forward to checking out The Chippy Fish And Grill at the Packing District which generally gets good reviews.
The service was friendly and after checking out the menu i decided on the two piece fish with chips (french fries) then i was given a buzzer and sat down at nearby seat. The restaurant doesn’t have its own seating but seating was available across from the restaurant at the rail overlooking the first floor.

When the food arrived i must admit it looked pretty good with two good sized portions of fish with a large amount of chips (french fries) underneath. The fish batter was tasty as well as thin and crispy over thick flakey fish. There is nothing worse than thick hard batter over the fish and, this batter was perfect. Having slices of lemon to put over the fish is always a good thing and i applied to both portions.
Underneath the two portions of fish was a large amount of chips (french fries) they was crispy on the outside and soft in the inside but bland. Yes the did give you two tiny packets of salt but they didn’t really help. The let down on this meal apart from the bland chips (french fries) was actually the condiments the tartar sauce given was 90 percent mayonnaise and not great; Also the ketchup supplied was cheap and didn’t taste like tomatoes just had a weird non real taste.
The fish was really good with great batter the fries portion was good but should have been seasoned better. If you are not going to salt the chips (french fries) leaving it to the diner to do then provide real salt in larger packets. I don’t know if i was just unlucky with the tarter sauce i got or if its made that way to save money but dipping my fish in mainly mayonnaise is not for me. The same with the ketchup which was cheap and didn’t taste the best so i skipped it. Overall i would go back for the great fish but maybe i would bring my own condiments including malt vinegar.
