June 12th 2026: There is some amazing food stalls at the Northgate Mercado in Costa Mesa serving the best of Mexican cuisine. Being a non Spanish speaker I haven’t delved as much as i could in the food stalls here but over time i will try more.
Tortas Ahogadas is in the back right corner of Northgate Mercado with plenty of seating nearby. The item i wanted to check out is the Mexican Hot Dog which sells for $9 which sounds expensive but this isn’t the legendary $1.50 Costco hot dog deal.
This hot dog is more like a polish sausage that is covered with a huge amount of sweet onions and tomatoes as well as ketchup,mustard and mayonnaise by default. The only drawback is its hard to eat will all the toppings i would grab a fork and take some off before trying to eat it. $9 isn’t cheap for a hot dog but i would say its worth the money if you are nearby i would check it out. The Northgate Mercado gets busy at lunch times and dinner times especially on the Weekends so i would come other times if you don’t want to wait in a line.
